Ember Hot Stove is a great new restaurant in New Toronto created by Sean Norman and Troy Pritchard – who jointly, have more than 50 years’ experience in the restaurant industry. Not a pub or bar, it’s a unique concept restaurant and social house that features modern, Canadian cuisine, craft beer and fine wines alongside a diverse, unique and scrumptious menu. To learn more about this new hot spot, we conducted a short Q&A with one of the founding partners, Sean Norman.

1. What is a hot stove and social house? Why name the restaurant after it?

Hot Stove is another name for kitchen and social house is a lounge-y cozy atmosphere where our guests come to dine, mingle, have a drink and relax. We have four TVs, live music (eventually) and an ambience second to none.

2. Why did you choose this neighbourhood for the restaurant?

After investigating other areas, New Toronto is very desirable. The demographics are changing in favour of new development [Such as Eau Du Soleil down the street] and we saw the demand for a restaurant such as ours. We are very excited to be in the Lake Shore community.

3. Name three must have items on the menu, and why.

The burger is by far the most “neat” item. We literally stuff the burger with oka cheese and sauté onions. We grind the meat ourselves. The lobster mac & cheese and the 16oz bone in rib steak are also mouthwatering.

4. Why should folks choose Ember as there next dinner outing?

Our concept is unique. Not many restaurants in the GTA provide modern Canadian cuisine in a very warm environment. Our staff is all professionally trained servers and bartenders, not to mention the back of the house. Our chef is very innovative. We host of variety of craft and popular Canadian beers as well as a small but mighty wine list. Our martini and cocktail list is classic meets nouveau.

5. What do you love about this Lake Shore neighbourhood?

I love this neighbourhood because of the warmth of the people and the sense of community. Since we took over the restaurant in early December we have been so warmly received. Our neighbours have responded in kind to what we’re doing and love the fact we are here and that makes me very, very happy.

Despite the awful weather, Ember Hot Stove & Social House’s grand opening on Thursday, February 20 was packed with well-wishers from 7p.m. until last call. Guests enjoyed cold drinks, hot food and the ambient sounds of Reno Silva while soaking in the warm and intimate vibe of the neighbourhood’s newest hot spot.

Featuring craft beers, a carefully selected wine list, a modern take on classic Canadian fare and a sexy downtown feel, Ember’s opening has been eagerly anticipated by the New Toronto community. A proponent of the neighbourhood’s revitalization, Councillor Mark Grimes was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Located at 3039 Lakeshore Blvd W, Ember Hot Stove & Social House is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to -12 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. Lunch and children’s menus available.
